Pit Bike Size, Surron Power: Electro & Co ETM RTR Preview

Electro & Company is a well-known company who have been designing top-of-the-range parts to convert popular dirt bikes of all sizes into electric dirt bikes. Until now… The ETM RTR is the first bike completely designed in-house by Electro & Co. And it’s designated RTR for Ready To Ride. Kind of says it all, doesn’t it?

So you know, this is not a sponsored post and they don’t know we’re writing it. These are our thoughts as enthusiasts about the up-and-coming RTR and why it’s poised to be a pretty big deal – if it’s as good as it looks right now.

Who is Electro & Co?

Electro and Company is a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who are pretty amazing at designing powertrain kits and more. Based in California, they believe that electricity truly gives you the best motocross experience, and that your bike “should become an extension of yourself without any latency or noise to muddy your experience,” as quoted from the Electro & Co team.

From this perspective, one of their original goals was to bring a plug-and-play option to convert gas dirtbikes easily to electric dirtbikes. This has now expanded, for the first time ever, into the production of a completely new electric dirt bike: the ETM RTR.

What is the ETM RTR?

The ETM RTR is a brand new electric dirt bike that is the size of a pit bike with the spec-sheet performance of a much larger gas bike. It features some rather cool parts that you would not expect on an e-moto of this size or price point. For example, we all know that suspension on e-motos is less than fantastic, but on the ETM RTR, you’ll find a large-diameter, fully adjustable suspension. It is also made with modding in mind, so, even though it comes stock with robust parts, you’ll also be able to easily modify it to your heart’s content.

This article will discuss the ETM RTR, but note that there is an option for the mini version, the ETM Mini, which is aimed at kids 6 years or older. Make sure you subscribe to our newsletter community to be the first to hear the news as we hear it.

Let’s get straight into the good stuff:

Electro & Co ETM RTR Stats

The Stats on the ETM RTR
The ETM RTR stats

The frame on the ETM RTR has been designed from the ground up by Electro and Co. At its heart lies a tubular steel frame with a removable subframe, and it’s all beefier than what you might typically expect on a bike this small. Even the swing arm has been beefed up, with MX axle blocks to withstand the hard landings.

Weighing only 130 lbs, the components on this e-moto have been specifically designed and chosen for low weight, yet high strength. Yes, this is a small e-moto when compared to the Surron LBX, or E-Ride Pro, but it has been designed as an ergonomically pleasing pit bike. The seat is a respectable 30 inches, and as a bonus, has a quick release for easy access to the important parts (battery for hot swapping!).

The drivetrain on the ETM RTR has a max output of 8000 watts, with three selectable power levels. The Electro & Co ETM IPM Brushless Motor – a motor of the company’s own brand – is powered by a 72v 25ah battery, or the optional 75v 40ah battery. The battery is quickly swappable and can be charged in one hour depending on the charger you have.

Other features include the Electro and Co pit bike disk brakes front and rear, pegs that can be mounted at adjustable positions, a live display that only displays what you need it to, and many more useful features. All up, the Electro and Co ETM RTR is a strong, sturdy, awesome pit bike.

What is unique about the ETM RTR?

With a whopping 8kW on a 130lb frame – that’s more power than a Surron LBX with roughly the same weight – the ETM RTR is a little pocket rocket. Clearly Electro & Co have designed an e-moto with a strong emphasis on ride comfort, even on a small frame. The team at Electro & Co knows that many riders love to mod their machines, so even though the stock version looks to be pretty robust, it is also easy to customize 100% to your liking.

When you receive your ETM RTR, the claimed assembly time will take less than one hour, and if you purchase your ETM RTR with a fast charger, the charging time is only around one hour. That means the ETM RTR will have approximately 25 miles of range on the standard battery.

Given how other e-motos have gone, there will surely be an aftermarket battery with bigger stats and longer range in the future, though nothing has been announced just yet.

Who is the ETM RTR suited for?

Given its size, the ETM RTR is designed for the dirtbike enthusiast who wants to have a great weekend out on a smaller machine that could fit in the trunk of many vehicles. It could also be a great (albeit pretty powerful) step up for younger riders whose skill level allows them to tame an 8kW beast. Rip around your backyard track in near silence, or navigate the paddock and spectator areas of your next hard enduro event with ease.

Love it for the cool bike it’s built as, or increase the power and mod to make your ultimate pit machine. Talking about modding, there are three different wheel kits on offer so you can choose the perfect match to the terrain you love to ride most, right out of the box.

Although the ETM RTR is pit bike size, it is not for the faint-hearted. Take it to the track, woods, try some stunts, and you’ll find that it’s built robust enough to handle things that might break bikes twice its size.
