Has anyone else noticed that stock headlights on e-motos, well, suck? If you’re attempting any night time riding, or riding at dusk through tall trees – you know what I’m talking about, the trail gets hard to see, the ruts get disguised, and you’d love a little extra light to see where you’re going.
Then, if you add an aftermarket headlight, the ones that are actually good are usually big, bulky, and you’re wary they could catch on any tree branch or scrub. Not to mention, where can you fit your race number?
These were the main reasons why we wanted to create a headlight mask that integrates with a number plate. As far as we know, there aren’t any options currently available on the market that tick all the boxes that we’re after.

Now you can mount a Baja S2 light to a Surron, Talaria, E Ride Pro, or pretty much any other e-moto.
Introducing the Rift.
What is the Heavy Hitter Rift Headlight Mask?
Let’s rewind a few years. It’s racing season. Some of our GritShift team members, including Rusty (our R&D lead), are about to head out for their prologue lap at a big event. The reliable Baja S2 lights are retrofitted onto a KTM number plate with race numbers attached, a reliable combination for our competitors.

It works, but not ideal. It’s not the typical GritShift-spec, well-designed upgrade that we’re known for. Lights are necessary, but so are race numbers, and this retrofitted, pieced-together race plate with a light was made out of necessity.
So, what did we do…
We started designing a headlight mask that holds a good quality light, displays a race number, looks good, is easy to fit, strong, robust, and survives the toughest of tracks… and we did it. And when I say we, I can’t take any credit; it was Rusty and his R&D team who are the brains behind all of GritShift’s Heavy Hitter parts. I get the privilege of writing about all of Rusty’s awesome inventions and watching and hearing firsthand all his amazing stories of why he designs particular parts. Spoiler alert, it’s because he needs them for his bike!
And, if these parts survive on Rusty’s e-moto, you know they’re good for everyone! (Just watch how the R&D guys and girls test these parts on Instagram!)
Let’s get technical on this headlight mask…
The Heavy Hitter Rift Headlight Mask
The Heavy Hitter Rift Headlight Mask is designed for those who require extra light at night, need a place to display their race numbers, and want a cool, clean, and aggressive look for their electric dirt bike.
It’s made from flexible ABS construction plastics, which are commonly found on gas-powered dirt bikes. It has an aluminum faceplate ring, which allows even clamp pressure over the mask and headlight lens. This means you don’t get any surface vibrations.
The mask is easy to install, very similar to a standard number plate. This design had gone through 17 iterations before the final production was perfected, ensuring it is the perfect fit for most e-motos.

If you have anything from a pit bike to an Ultra Bee, this headlight mask will fit. Everything you need to mount your own Baja S2 light onto the Rift is included, along with all hardware needed to mount the Rift to your bike. Additionally, the integrated brake line guide helps make sure everything works together perfectly.
Why this is an awesome headlight mask:
Rusty had a long list of criteria he wanted to meet when designing the Rift headlight mask. Firstly, it needed to meet the GritShift standard for a super durable, top-performing part. Then, it needed to be easy to fit on as many e-motos as possible. Next, it had to look good!
To solve the first criteria of ensuring a top-performing, durable part, careful consideration was given to the plastic used in the design, as well as how it clamps to the forks. The combination of the flex in the ABS plastic and how the mask is mounted allows for movement if the mask were to impact something. By allowing this movement, it reduces the chances of breaking the headlight while ensuring it’s rigid enough under normal riding conditions to stop any vibrations.

The other challenge when creating a headlight mask was ensuring the front brake line is safely routed away from any pinch points. With more and more e-motos having DOT brakes as standard, it was necessary to ensure this headlight mask comes with an oversized brake line guide.
To have a universal fit on most e-motos, the mask was also engineered to allow the mounting points to be in the best position and allow fitment on many different types of forks.
Once all the practical points were solved, focus then shifted onto making this headlight mask look awesome. Rusty came up with a unique solution…
Why is the headlight vertical?
When I asked Rusty this, he said, “It honestly started with the headlight being mounted horizontally in the mask, but it was too wide for these frames to have any sort of flow. It just came out blocky all the time. One morning, I just turned it 90 degrees vertically, and that gave us a lot more room to make the headlight mask flow.”
If you’re wondering, this doesn’t do much to change the output of the light beam. The standard Baja S2 light fits perfectly in this headlight mask, and all the hardware is included to make this as simple as possible. You will need to get your own Baja S2 light to make this work.

How do you get one?
Currently, as of September 2025, the Rift Mask is in its final testing phase. This involves passing QC, a very in-depth process that tests a range of performance of this part. As soon as that happens, production will start, and pre-orders will be open.
