Heavy Hitter’s New Color Skid Plates For Surron, E Ride, and More

Have you seen the stock skid plates on e-motos? They’re rather underwhelming… and these are the bits that are supposed to be protecting your motor and other vital parts…

Needless to say, skid plates are necessary on electric dirt bikes if you’re riding them in their natural environment.

But… there are skid plates, and there are skid plates. When purchasing this upgrade, make sure it is strong and tough. If you get hung up on a rock, will it actually protect your motor?

Let’s start by looking at Heavy Hitter…

Who is Heavy Hitter?

If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know we have our own in-house R&D team, a group of talented people who ride dirt bikes at every opportunity, and also happen to have some awesome skills when it comes to designing parts. The parts we create are Heavy Hitter parts; you can search for them on our website.

Did you know Heavy Hitter started when Rusty (our R&D boss) kept breaking ‘upgraded’ components on his e-moto? Not satisfied with the options available out there, he started designing his own parts.

If the parts that Rusty designed survive on his bike, they’re good for us! Have you seen how Rusty rides? Check out our Instagram to see for yourself! As a competitor in some of the hardest races, like the Red Bull Tennessee Knockout Hard Enduro, Rusty puts his e-moto through some hard lines!

What exactly is a Skid Plate?

A skid plate is a super-strong, well-designed piece of aluminium that sits underneath your motor, keeping it nice and safe. Most e-motos come with a stock skid plate, but it isn’t designed to really take the weight of your bike or survive impacts.

A good quality skid plate is cheap insurance for the vital parts of your emoto.

When choosing a skid plate, you need to make sure it is robust, has good ventilation, and has good angles. What I mean by angles, think about the times you’re stuck on a log. Sometimes, you just have to drag your bike; if the angles of the skid plate are wrong, it will jag on the log and will make it much more difficult to dislodge the bike. Or perhaps when you’re sending it through an enduro track and pick your lines around rocks, you want something that skids over the rocks and deflects those impacts without catching.

It also helps when you’re riding on streets, and try to drop off a bit of a curb. In front of your mates… You take it too slow, and next thing you know, you hear the ominous scraping sound on your skid plate. No dramas… if you have a decent skid plate! If you were to scrape the motor, you would have a bad time.

The Heavy Hitter Skid Plates

Every Heavy Hitter part is over-engineered – strong, durable, easier to use and lighter than other parts available. And now, they come in different colors!

The main focus of every Heavy Hitter component is always on function. But now, as our parts get discovered and more and more riders are adding Heavy Hitter parts to their bikes, and we are selling more and more, we can start offering different colors for some stylistic excitement.

And we think they look awesome!
