The talaria xxx pro

Talaria XXX Pro vs. Talaria XXX: What’s Changed?

When Talaria first released the Talaria XXX, we weren’t sure how it would handle. It was the first e-moto Talaria released with the battery casing forming part of the frame and no linkage on the rear suspension.

With no option to upgrade or strengthen the frame, we quickly realised it wasn’t the bike for the big senders; instead, we found it to be a great commuter e-moto and one that was great for mucking around on as a beginner, all at a lower price point.

Since the initial release of the Talaria XXX (also known as the Talaria X3) around two years ago, the e-moto market has expanded again, and even more companies are releasing e-motos that are aimed at this price range, but have the ability to survive an MX track.

Our review of the Talaria XXX

Does the new Talaria XXX Pro compete with the wave of e-motos new to the scene? Will you be able to take the XXX Pro to the track? Is it a big improvement?

Let’s have a look at what has changed, and who the new Talaria XXX Pro is best suited for.

Stats on the Talaria XXX vs the Talaria XXX Pro, as discussed in the next paragraph.
The stats on the original Talaria XXX vs the new XXX Pro

As you can see from the infographic, there aren’t many changes between the models! The Pro has the same power output, motor, and brakes. The biggest differences between the original XXX and the XXX Pro are the suspension and new tires, giving it much more of an off-road feel.

Here is the breakdown:

Suspension

The suspension has 160mm of travel with a new linkage design. This is different from the original XXX, which didn’t have a rear linkage. The new Talaria XXX Pro is a dual-rate coil 550 x 850 lbs air shock.

The front forks are still the Talaria factory 8” forks.

Tires

Going with the theme of more off-road design, the Talaria XXX Pro has off-road CST knobby tires. 19” front tire with a 17” rear.

There is also an option for Supermoto wheels for an additional cost.

Features

The new features are both more functional and better looking. The headlight has an on/off switch, which turns off both the front and the rear lights. The rear light is now positioned under the rear fender. This saves lots of money when you damage the fender!

Another nice new feature is a color display that is easy to view at a quick glance and gives you all the info you need.

Riding style

The Talaria XXX Pro is a great all-around bike for a bit of everything. As Talaria says, ‘the XXX Pro transforms Urban commuting into an adventure playground.’ It makes a great commuter bike; you can take it on a dirt trail, and if you’re a beginner, it could be OK at some MX tracks.

In our typical GritShift style, we would need to do some big tests to see how this bike would hold up to a big sender riding style. Looking at the linkage design, it is an improvement on the first XXX, but unlikely to be strong enough to survive big jumps.

If you haven’t read any previous blogs, let me explain what I mean by GritShift testing. We love pushing these e-motos way beyond what they’re made to do. Big triples, endless whoops, rocky tracks. More than what most riders would intend on doing on a weekend ride. But, for those who want to send it big, you need to know what the limits are of each e-moto, and to upgrade those parts.

That’s why we started GritShift. We needed parts that would withstand the way we ride, so we designed, created, and thoroughly tested parts that suit our needs. This benefits everyone – the parts that get our tick of approval, we sell on our GritShift website. You get pro-level parts without going through the vigorous testing stage!

If you’re looking for a smaller, lower-priced e-moto but are not sure what to get, the first thing you need to consider is your riding style. Are you looking for something great for commuting, or something great for backflips on the MX track? If it’s more on the commuting or dirt tracks, the XXX Pro could be a great bike for you. If you want to jump the rocks and take to the track, then look into the Electro and Co ETM RTR.

The ETM RTR has more power at 8kW, from a 72V battery system, while the XXX Pro has 6kW from the 60V. Some of the bigger differences are the size. The ETM RTR sits slightly smaller, at 30” compared to 31.9” seat height on the Talaria XXX. The wheel sizes are different – 14/12 on the ETM RTR vs 19/17 on the Talaria.

Here’s our article on the ETM RTR and how we know it’s better suited for big senders.

Size differences:

ETM RTR

  • Seat height: 30”
  • Wheel base: 44.5”

XXX Pro

  • Seat height: 31.9”
  • Wheel base: 48.8”

Modding Options for the Talaria XXX Pro:

There are many options to mod the Talaria XXX Pro! As the bike is very similar to the original, most of the parts fit either the XXX or the XXX Pro. Always read the description of any product to make sure the product is the right part. If you’re buying from GritShift, you can contact us at any time, and we can check if it will fit your e-moto.

Some of our first mods we recommend:

  • Footpegs – Something more grippy (feels more secure when you’re riding)
  • Handlebars and Grips – Tailor to your size and preference for more comfort
  • Headlight (and adapter) or headlight mask – Better vision at night, and safer around others during the day
  • Tires – Depending on the terrain you’re riding on, you may need to pick something more suited

Who should get the XXX Pro?

Anyone who likes the idea of commuting on a fun, maneuverable, zippy e-moto should look at the Talaria XXX Pro! If you want to have a bit of fun on the tracks, but don’t feel the urge to get airborne, this could also be the bike for you.

Would we get one?

Simply put, yes. However, if we had the option of getting something that could withstand a few laps at the MX tracks, most of us here would opt for that option. Keep in mind, we’re all experienced riders who spend more time airborne than meandering the streets or calmer dirt trails.

It’s just personal preference. Most of us at GritShift like to push the limits of what is possible on electric dirt bikes. We would rather have a known superstrong frame to start a modding journey with. The way the battery forms part of the frame is a great idea, but possibly not for how we use our e-motos. For all other types of riding, this is a sturdy, neat bike.

The Talaria XXX Pro could also make a great inexpensive e-moto for others in your family who might be beginner riders and want to join you. It’s a great starting point, and one that will suit them for some time while they’re getting a feel of riding a dirt bike. And as they expand their riding skills, check out our website for parts that allow the bike to grow with their abilities.
