August 23rd was an exciting day for e-moto riders around the world. Surron, the OG of e-motos, was set to release a brand new, unique electric dirt bike: the Surron Hyper Bee. The day came and we got pictures, we got speculation, but not many hard facts. Is this the best bike Surron has released or has the Hyper Bee been hyped up for no reason? Here’s what we do know:
All the Hype…
The official unveiling of the Surron Hyper Bee was at TKO – the Red Bull Tennesee Knockout, a world class dirt bike and hard enduro event. To view the official launch, check out this video:
The Surron Hyper Bee was revealed to the world, and as you can see, it is lightweight and much smaller than the other models Surron currently makes. However, nothing was said about power, speeds, components… nothing at all!
We also found that Surron Tech, manufacturers of the Surron range, released full photos of the Surron Hyper Bee. See the Post here:
Again, it looks much smaller than the original Surron LBX, with some people even commenting about similarities to the Razor electric kids bikes. There are mixed reactions, with some riders super keen on giving the ‘pit bike’ sized e-moto a spin, and some riders upset as they were hoping for a more powerful version on the Surron LBX.
The bigger question that everyone keeps asking is what is going to be the price? You know if it’s built by Surron, it’s going to be good quality, but it needs to be affordable. The Surron LBX currently retails for around $4500, so we can only assume it will be cheaper than that. Expect the price to start with a 3 at most.
Surron Hyper Bee Facts:
While Surron has remained quiet about the details of the Hyper Bee, this is what we can confirm:
- The e-moto is an ‘everything electric pit bike’ according to Surron USA
- It has a mid drive motor which is lightweight but powerful
- The battery has no cables – no comms or power cables, which will make it safer and easier to swap.
To be clear, people at TKO were asking a lot of questions about the specs, voltage, range, and power of the Hyper Bee, but Surron representatives weren’t saying a word.
